March 2021 - Pigeon apology
This photo was taken down in Lancing at that time – the first few days of March last year. I really like the whole experience of Spring, right from its early beginnings as winter reluctantly leaves its claws behind, and summer is beginning to beat down the doors of our countryside and beaches. But Spring! … my favourite season, with bright colours beginning to peep out from the ground with crocuses and daffodils showing their heads. And the birds beginning their courtship and nesting rituals.
Now, pigeons are not the most popular of birds, sometimes called the rats of the air, but I like them and think they can make some excellent photos. And photos with stories attached as well.
Here, two of them are standing on a fence, thinking about each other – what do you reckon they could be saying? In my thinking the bird on the right is the male – it looks as if it has its pinstripe suit on all ready for the office, but it is carrying a twig – maybe it is saying to its girlfriend next to him. ‘Look I’m sorry if I offended you, but please will you take this nesting material in amends for my rudeness’. I don’t know, obviously, but it is a lot of fun trying to make up a story.
By the way, I do like caption competitions, so feel free to contact me if you have any great ideas as to what they are talking about.
